[/dfd_heading][vc_column_text]

Africans Rising for Unity, Justice, Peace, and Dignity is currently undertaking a leadership transition process following the transitioning of Mohammed Lamin Saidykhan and Coumba Toure who have coordinated this movement since its inception. As announced at the All-African Movements Assembly, November 30 2022 was the last day in office of Coumba Toure after Lamin Saidykhan transitioned out on September 30, 2022. The Coordinating Collective and the entire membership of Africans Rising thanks the two for their service to the movement and for their expressed willingness to continue supporting the movement. Below is an update on some of the steps taken and important timelines of this process.

  • To ensure that the running of the secretariat was not interrupted, Hardi Yakubu, Engagement and Collaboration Lead of Africans Rising has been serving as Interim Coordinator since October 1, and will lead the movement through the transition period. A report will be issued afterwards on the activities, successes and challenges during the interim period to inform further transition processes after the recruitment of a substantive coordinator.
  • The Call for Application for the positions of Movement Coordinator, and a Leadership and Transition Coach has been shared. The deadline for application is December 14, 2022.
  • Suitable candidates for these positions will be selected, interviewed and the final candidate picked by January, 2022. Africans Rising is an equal opportunity employer and will use the best standards of recruitment to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • A Leadership succession & Change Management Plan by January 2023, which will track, monitor & report at regular intervals after the assumption of office of the substantive movement coordinator.
  • Based on a decision of the Coordinating Collective, the leadership model of the movement will from now on be mono-leadership open to all demographics of Africans without any discrimination. However the Coordinating Collective will continue to be led by two Co-Chairs. The roles are currently being performed by Miouda Bouichou and Rokhaya Ndieye.
  • Elections of new CC members will be held in April 2023 to reconstitute the Board for the next two years in accordance with the AR constitution
  • We recognise this transition period is a critical moment of change and as in every organisation, transitions may occasion uncertainty. It is however also an opportunity to show the institutional resilience of Africans Rising to grow beyond its founding coordinators.

Africans Rising values this leadership transition as a journey of learning, and we are thankful to the members, partners and allies for their understanding, support and guidance throughout the process so far. Together, we are building one of the most formidable Pan-African movements to carry forward the work of total liberation and unity of Africa and Africans.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
