COVID-19 has shocked the whole world and Africa has not been spared. Today most African countries are still struggling to stop the spread of the pandemic which has devastated many aspects of life on the African continent and in the diaspora. However, this global health crisis has also given rise to a new generation of leaders and activists bringing innovative ideas to prevent the spread of the disease.
Inspired by the example of Africans Rising members who are working tirelessly on the ground to protect their communities from COVID-19, we are kicking off our Africans Rising COVID-19 Solidarity Fund, a fundraiser to support grassroots COVID-19 relief efforts.
Thousands of Africans Rising members took part in this year’s May 25 mobilization “Active Citizenship in the Fight Against COVID-19, #Rise4OurLives.” In Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Libya, DRC, and the USA, among many other countries, you showed us that you are actively engaged in protecting your communities from this disease. We want to see your work continue. That is why we are inviting our members and friends to support you. We want to make sure Africans and diaspora communities develop and lead their own protection, education, and health care responses to COVID-19.
