Africans Rising for Unity, Justice, Peace & Dignity is deeply saddened by the damage and destruction caused by Tropical Cyclone Freddy, which has devastated parts of Malawi and Mozambique and killed over 500 people. This month-long storm has brought torrential rains to the southeastern region of the continent, the equivalent of six months of rainfall in six days. According to Malawi’s Disaster Management Affairs Department more than 500,000 people have been displaced and are currently living at 534 camps.
Africans Rising in partnership with other movements on the ground is organizing solidarity support for victims of the cyclone. You can support this effort by donating what you can. All donations will be sent to our partner organisations to support their work on the ground.
We have also organized the collection of relief items by various volunteers in the Southern Africa region. We call on fellow Africans in Angola, Botswana, Eswthini, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Comoros, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe to also donate relief items such as sanitary wear, food, clean clothes, medical aids and blankets. Families affected by the disaster urgently need assistance, and we need your support to help them.
